Resort Will Feature a Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course
March 4, 2006
KSI Services, Inc. and ClubCorp today announced that the two companies have entered into an agreement for Dallas-based ClubCorp to manage the Harbor Station Golf Club. Located within KSI's Harbor Station resort community, situated on the Potomac River in Prince William County, the club will feature a Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course, which is currently under construction and due to open in 2007. The deal also includes management of the premier Harbor Station Sports Club.
“ClubCorp is the preeminent leader in club management and we at KSI are excited to be entering into this partnership for the Harbor Station Club,” said Robert C. Kettler, chairman and founder of KSI. “The ClubCorp name is synonymous with elite golf resorts and private country clubs and I have no doubt that the Harbor Station course will soon be a must-play destination for golfers throughout the state and the mid-Atlantic region.”
Harbor Station is a mixed-use resort community bordered by Powell’s Creek to the north, the Potomac River to the east and Quantico Creek to the south. The golf course will be available to owners of the 4,000 new homes as well as guests of the luxury hotel, conference center and spa. Other resort amenities include a destination town center, Virginia Railway Express (VRE) rail station, 350-slip yacht basin and marina village plus two million square feet of office, retail and civic development.
Under the terms of the management agreement, ClubCorp will manage the club facilities at Harbor Station, which include the Nicklaus-designed golf course, 35,000-square-foot clubhouse and 15,000 square foot sports club. The clubhouse offers a variety of formal and casual dining options, banquet facilities and a pro shop. The sports club is comprised of indoor and outdoor pools, tennis courts, yoga studio, workout area with cardio and circuit training equipment, juice bar, social areas and other amenities.
“Harbor Station Golf Club presents an opportunity for us to manage another first-class property, expand our relationship with KSI, and to offer our members more golf in the region," said John Beckert, ClubCorp's president and chief executive officer. "We believe this club will become the premier golfing facility on the eastern seaboard, and we will work hard to ensure its long-term success."
By inking the Harbor Station deal, the firms are building on the success of their on-going relationship. ClubCorp owns and operates the Piedmont Club in Haymarket, Virginia, which is the centerpiece of the 1,600-unit KSI developed planned community. Piedmont Club, which opened in 2001, is a private golf club that features a par-72 Tom Fazio course, a 22,000-square-foot clubhouse as well as tennis and swimming facilities.
The Harbor Station course will be a par 72 that includes four sets of tees with total distance ranging from 5,389 to 7,156 yards. The course is carved through mature hardwoods with more than 200 feet of elevation change. The course offers dramatic vistas with several holes running along Powell's Creek, and many buffered by native wetlands. Nicklaus makes regular visits to oversee construction, which is scheduled to be completed in spring 2007, with the club opening in September, 2007.
"I am delighted we’ve had the opportunity to design the course at Harbor Station Golf Club," said Nicklaus. "This is a beautiful area of the country that provides natural terrain rich in wildlife, mature trees and native vegetation, all of which plays a role in the golf course design. Once complete, the course will offer challenging play for golfers of all skill levels, and a memorable golf experience for everyone.” Nicklaus adds, “In addition, I’m glad to be working with the professionals at ClubCorp again. They bring a distinct level of expertise and the highest standards to each and every project" ClubCorp owns or operates 19 clubs with Nicklaus designed golf courses, including Vista Vallarta in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico (site of the 2006 Champions Tour Puerto Vallarta Blue Agave Golf Classic).
