Bob Kettler is Founder and Chief Executive Officer of KETTLER, one of D.C.’s largest private, real estate companies.
Mr. Kettler began his career in the early 1970’s renovating apartments and retail stores, as well as building new homes in D.C. neighborhoods. In 1977 he formed KETTLER (under the name Kettler and Scott) as a home building company and later transitioned from home builder to planned community developer in the early 1980’s. Utilizing capital from institutional investors and banking institutions, KETTLER experienced rapid growth and became the leading planned community developer in the D.C. region. In over 25 projects, KETTLER has provided 46,000 developed lots to both public and private home builders, 15 shopping centers, 10 million square feet of planned commercial uses, and 8 eight championship golf courses. Examples of these developments in Virginia include Cascades, Brambleton and Piedmont.
Kettler has been successful in developing several notable commercial mixed-use projects of approximately 5 million square feet including the 1.4MM square foot Village at Leesburg and the 2MM square foot Trinity Center.
Beginning in 1988, he entered the apartment development industry building over 21,000 multifamily units in garden, mid-rise, high-rise and mixed-use properties. These developments also include award winning luxury apartment communities such as Metropolitan Park in Pentagon City as well as 2,500 condominium homes with a gross sales value of nearly $1 billion. Examples of these communities are Midtown Alexandria Station and Midtown Reston Town Center. Additionally, Kettler has developed 7,000 tax credit and bond financed apartments in 40 properties.
KETTLER’s development pipeline includes over 6,179 units this cycle. With esteemed projects like The Mile in Tysons, VA, Market Terminal in Washington, D.C., and Delamarre in Celebration Florida currently under construction.
Additionally, in 1988, Kettler established KETTLER Management, the property management division of the organization. Named one of the ‘Top 50 Apartment Managers in the Nation’ by NMHC; Today KETTLER Management provides best in class management, marketing, and pre-development services. The company currently manages nearly 30,000 apartments in 100+ communities throughout the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, Southeast, and Florida, both KETTLER owned and third party assets.
Recognized as a leader in the real estate development industry, Mr. Kettler has been the recipient of the Building Industry Association’s Monument Lifetime Achievement Award, the Developer of the Year award given by the National Association of Home Builders as well as appearing on the Washington Business Journal’s Power 100 list for the last five consecutive years.
Currently, Mr. Kettler serves on the board of the Trust for the National Mall, the Tysons Partnership board, the Kennedy Center corporate board and Wesley Seminary board. Throughout his tenure, Mr. Kettler served on boards for George Mason University, Northern Virginia Community College, the Northern Virginia Building Industry Association, and the National Methodist Church. He has also served as a Trustee at St. Patrick’s Episcopal Day School in Washington, D.C., and the Potomac School in McLean, VA. Mr. Kettler and his wife, Charlotte, co-chaired a successful $50 million capital campaign to redevelop the Potomac School in McLean, VA. Mr. Kettler also sponsors an annual scholars’ program at the George Mason University Center for Regional Analysis for the study of multifamily housing.
With clearly defined roots in the Washington, D.C. region, it’s with no surprise that KETTLER is the Official Real Estate Company of the Washington Capitals, Wizards and Mystics; Sponsor of the KETTLER Loft Level at Capital One Arena (2018-current), and owned naming rights to the KETTLER Capitals Iceplex in Ballston, VA from 2006-2018. Mr. Kettler has been married to his wife Charlotte for 31 years. The couple has four adult children and resides in McLean, VA.
As President of KETTLER, Cindy Fisher leads the strategic direction of the organization, with Operations, Multifamily Development & Construction, Investments, IT, Accounting, Human Resources, and Marketing reporting directly to her. Cindy has been with KETTLER for over 4 years, most notably transforming the company into a vertical integration model. Cindy brings with her over 20 years of Multifamily Real Estate Experience.
Prior to joining KETTLER, Ms. Fisher was Vice President of Financial Operations at The Pew Charitable Trusts. She also worked at The Washington Post, United Way of America, Freddie Mac and Gates Hudson and Associates; and is a proud alum of Gannon University in Erie, PA.
Sean Curtin joined KETTLER in 2006 and is Executive Vice President and General Counsel for the company. Mr. Curtin oversees all aspects of the company’s legal work, including working with outside counsel on transactional and litigation matters. He also serves on the company’s Investment Committee.
Mr. Curtin earned a Bachelor’s Degree in English from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA., as well as a J.D. from the UVA School of Law. He is also a member of the California State Bar, the District of Columbia Bar, and the Virginia State Bar. Mr. Curtin brings over 30 years of specialized legal experience to the organization and has represented some of the Washington area’s most prominent developers and lending institutions.
Pat Cassada is responsible for all Finance and Accounting operations for all four KETTLER business divisions. Pat has been with KETTLER since 2001, and is fluent in operations of budgeting, financial reporting, corporate finance, tax, audits, treasury/cash management, insurance, internal controls, risk management and financial analysis. A graduate of James Madison University, Pat has a Bachelor of Business Administration in accounting and is a certified public accountant.
Pamela Tyrrell joined KETTLER in 1997 and is Executive Vice President of the Multifamily Development and Construction division of the company. Ms. Tyrrell has over 20 years of experience and continues to be an integral part of the multifamily development team. She is primarily responsible for all aspects of rental projects from feasibility through construction, lease-up, and stabilization and oversees the development of over 1,800 units totaling nearly $500MM.
Ms. Tyrrell earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA., and a Master’s in Real Estate from Johns Hopkins University. Prior to joining KETTLER, Ms. Tyrrell worked at Arthur Anderson and Freddie Mac. She is a member of the Urban Land Institute where she serves as a young leaders mentor, an urban plan volunteer, and a member of the Regionalism Council. She also volunteers as a docent for the Art in the Schools Program at the Greater Reston Arts Center.
Charlie Kieler joined KETTLER in 2003 and is Executive Vice President of the Community Development division of the company. Mr. Kieler is responsible of all aspects of land and community development, mixed-use and commercial operations from concept through delivery. Throughout his tenure at KETTLER, he has overseen a number of high-profile projects, including the 1 million-square-foot Villages at Leesburg Town Center in Leesburg, VA.
Mr. Kieler’s division currently has a development pipeline of over 1,500 lots. Mr. Kieler earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from George Mason University in Fairfax, VA., and also holds a CPA certification. Prior to joining KETTLER he worked at Fried Companies Inc. with a focus on real estate development.
Robert Grealy serves as EVP of Operations. Mr. Grealy brings over 30 years of multifamily property management experience to KETTLER overseeing all aspects of property operations and customer/client relations. Prior to joining KETTLER, Mr. Grealy served as President of Property Management at Middleburg Real Estate Partners and Vice President of Property Management at Equity Residential. Mr. Grealy earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from the University of Maryland, College Park. During his multifamily career, Robert has served on the Board of Directors of several industry associations including Washington DC Apartment and Office Building Association (AOBA), Charlotte Apartment Association, Houston Apartment Association, Northern Virginia Apartment Association and the Virginia Tech Residential Property Management Advisory Board, where he served as Chairman.
Luke Davis joined KETTLER in 2010 and serves as Chief Investment Officer for the company. Mr. Davis is responsible for identifying and evaluating new development and existing asset acquisition opportunities, managing the due diligence process, capitalization of transactions and ventures and the establishment of business plans. He brings more than 10 years of investment and development experience with a focus on multifamily development and has been involved in over 40 projects with a total capitalization in excess of $3 billion.
Mr. Davis earned a bachelor’s degree in finance from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA. Prior to joining KETTLER, he worked at NOVO Development Corporation. Mr. Davis is an active member of the Urban Land Institute, as well as the DC Real Estate Group.
Greg Slang joined KETTLER in 2006 and is Executive Vice President of Asset Management for the company. He is responsible for providing strategic oversight and reporting for the multifamily portfolio with a focus on optimizing project returns and mitigating risks for the organization. Additionally, Mr. Slang oversees all project renovations, recapitalizations, and dispositions. He has 20 years of commercial real estate experience that includes an extensive background in multifamily valuation, acquisitions, and operations. Mr. Slang earned a bachelor’s in finance from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA. Prior to joining KETTLER, Mr. Slang worked at Mills Corporation where he asset managed several large-scale retail developments and previously provided commercial real estate underwriting services for CB Richard Ellis.
Stephanie leads all debt financing activities for KETTLER. Her responsibilities include broadening and maintaining KETTLER’s lender network, and originating, negotiating, and documenting construction, acquisition and refinance loans, land development facilities, credit and bridge facilities, and secured and unsecured lines of credit for the company.
Stephanie joined KETTLER after a long career as a multifamily lender. During her 25+ year tenure with national banks and non-bank lenders, her roles included multifamily loan underwriter, chief risk manager, loan originator, and production platform manager. Stephanie has expertise in the financing of both market rate and affordable multifamily properties.
Stephanie graduated from Wake Forest University with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Piano Performance from the Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Md., a Master of Arts in Psychology from Johns Hopkins University, and a Master’s in Business Administration from the Sellinger School of Business at Loyola University in Baltimore.
