Site key to neighborhood interconnectivity

TAMPA, Fla. – Nearly 13-acres of the former Tampa Park Apartments site was officially purchased today by Tampa businessman Darryl Shaw and KETTLER, a Washington D.C based real estate development company. The site sits between Tampa’s Channel District and historic Ybor City.

“The development of this land is critical to creating a seamless connection between Ybor, the Channel District, Encore, our downtown, and even Tampa Heights,” Shaw said. “In order to achieve that goal, we will look at incorporating bike and pedestrian paths, intermodal connections, and diverse housing options.”

"We're excited to overlay our expertise in building large, mixed-use developments to help create a vibrant and walkable community adjacent to Ybor City and downtown," said Graham Tyrrell, Senior Vice President of Multifamily at KETTLER. "KETTLER is delighted to be partnering with Darryl Shaw, and share in his vision for connecting the surrounding neighborhoods with thoughtful urban design."

Details on a plan for the property are expected this spring with construction beginning on the first site as early as the fall.

Shaw, who is the co-founder and CEO of BluePearl Specialty & Emergency Hospital Pet Hospital, has led the redevelopment of several key Tampa projects including the newly opened Hotel Haya which USA Today recently named the 2nd Best New Hotel in the country, and the Oliva Cigar Factory, a historic property fully renovated with 38 units.
